YouTube Is Running Without Any Proxy In Pakistan

As you know YouTube is blocked in Pakistan because of some Islamic videos and as Government of Pakistan said they will shutdown this site in Pakistan so they've done already that. But some users can access to YouTube without turning on any proxy or something like that software. This couldn’t be an overlook from ISPs and cellular operators and of course not from the regulator as well that suddenly YouTube started working normally on various networks in Pakistan. We haven’t had a word from concerned quarters but this was confirmed by people on different networks including PTCL DSL, EVO Dongle, Zong and Mobilink 3G that somehow YouTube was running on their PCs and mobile phones without using any proxy site.

Although there is no official indication from authorities (PTA) however, we will definitely see if this is a temporary unblocking of largest video sharing website or the ban has been lifted permanently rather silently that was imposed some three years ago in September 2012 on account of an anti-Islamic video.

We have been hearing that Google is in talks with Government of Pakistan for opening a localized version of its domain. May be its a good will gesture from our authorities to show their love for technology that the site is opened without announcing it through an official platform.

Ever since the ban, the decision of Government of Pakistan has been criticized and challenged repeatedly on various forums in favor of researchers and educationists who been deprived of invaluable knowledge that YouTube hosts in the form of videos. No doubt, that various free proxy sites and applications have been providing access to YouTube but it has remained silent and unresponsive for a big percentage of internet users in the country.

Just recently, Barrister Zafarullah moved a petition in the Lahore registry of Supreme Court pleading to open the YouTube in Pakistan as such a ban was no more required and it was also effecting the education and research work in Pakistan. Responding to the plea, Supreme Court has already issued notices to federation and other parties involved in the ban of video sharing website.

Just recently, Punjab government also showed positive attitude by revoking 19.5% tax on mobile broadband that it had imposed on May 28, 2015.
