Police in London have arrested the leader of Pakistan's powerful MQM party, Altaf Hussain, on suspicion of money-laundering.
Officers are seeking a private address in north-west London where they say a 60-year-old man was kept.
Mr Hussain has existed in the UK since 1991, saying his life would be at danger in the event that he came back to Pakistan.
His gathering, which controls Karachi, has urged supporters to stay smooth betwixt flare-ups of brutality there.
The British and Pakistani powers have in the past communicated worries that any capture of Altaf Hussain could prompt brutal challenges in Karachi.

Shootings have been accounted for from a few parts of Pakistan's biggest city, which BBC reporters say is strained.
Automobile overloads were accounted for in Karachi and different urban areas in Sindh area as organizations shut and individuals headed home dreading savagery.
One man in the city, who gave his name as Tahir, told the BBC that MQM supporters were discharging weapons in the boulevards and setting shoot to any shops which stayed open.
An alternate, Nabil, said there had been "turmoil" and "monstrous disarray" about whether Altaf Hussain had been captured or not.
