1. Life is fair.
Happiness isn't about always getting what you want. Happy people understand that sometimes life doesn't go their direction; life isn't fair. What they do know, is that you can just try your hardest, forgive yourself for what doesn't work, and let go when you have to.
2. Suffering is awful.
Suffering is an inevitable condition of humanity. You can't survive this world without at any rate a little suffering. Happy people know a deeper happiness comes through surviving a profound pain. We realize what we're without a doubt made of when confronted with such sting.
3. I'm in control of things.
As hard as you work, and as much as you attempt to arrange it full scale, you're just not in control. You can't control the actions or thoughts of others. Keeping in mind the end goal to achieve happiness, happy people acknowledge this inevitable truth and figure out how to be proactive instead of reactive to life's surprises and mishaps.
4. People are obligated to love me a specific way.
If your happiness is subject to how other people feel about you, you will never be happy. You can't please everybody and you certainly can't compel anybody to love you in a specific manner. Happy people acknowledge the way their loved ones feel, and work at showing their affection and asking for what they require as opposed to expecting people to love them the way they want to be loved.
5. Everybody hates me.
This is a toxic belief and a delusion, yet sadly an incredible proportion of unhappy people fall prey to this, which is generally why they are unhappy. Happy people confront the world with a sound dose of curiosity and apathy. They are interested in others, yet not so subject to being loved in a specific manner. Making friends takes time, there's nothing more to it.
6. I can't.
If you believe you are incapable and let that belief keep you from happiness, then ultimately you give truth to a self-imposed misrepresentation. The best way to improve and succeed at anything is to attempt and attempt again. Consider this: who is your idol? Do you think he or she is so accomplished through a life void of failure? No! They simply don't let their doubts keep them from happiness.
7. I have something to demonstrate.
Unhappy people seek happiness through endorsement. Lamentably, that regard is impossible to achieve because it is caused by an inner need, which keeps them constantly striving. Happiness must be achieved through self-acknowledgement. Yours is the main endorsement you require.
8. It doesn't matter.
"It doesn't matter" is just an excuse. It's what unhappy people let themselves know to avoid confrontation when they've been mistreated, or to bear an absence of fearlessness when they don't take after their dreams. Happiness matters. Respect matters. Don't dismiss your needs to avoid responsibility of your own happiness.
9. I'd be happier, if just I were [fill in the blank].
You know your routine. I'd be happier, if just I were skinnier, prettier, smarter, the CEO. Happy people know the secret to happiness is accepting themselves–flaws and what not. It's alright to take a shot at improving yourself–we're always in a state of learning–but its not alright to castigate yourself for your flaws. Focus on your strengths.
10. I'm excessively old.
You are never excessively old. Yes, you may look silly. Furthermore, yes, it may be harder than you want, yet its never past the point where it is possible to choose happiness. Happy people continue choosing happiness consistently, whether they felt it right off the bat or discovered the secret further down the road, its their choice. Life is unpredictable. The main sure thing is we're all getting older without rushing too much, so don't let that keep you from happiness.
